Hard Hat Zone ….

I felt like Chicken Little yesterday … the sky was falling. Pine needles, pinecones, tree bark, branches, big branches, tops of trees and entire trees were falling to the ground throughout the day as nature cleaned up the woods with a great big wind. Knocking all the dead junk out of the trees. Although we had blue skies and comfortable 70º weather, it was not a good day to go for a walk in the woods unless you had your hard hat on.

Cracking sounds were the warning to look up … and get out of the way of the larger falling objects. Pinecones, unfortunately, hit without warning. It was a little dangerous to be in the woods among the tall pines, but only good things will result from nature’s spring cleaning. The pinecones are now on the ground and new life can begin. They will be fueled with the nutrients the dead branches and trees on the forest floor will eventually provide as they decay and become the soil.

Occasionally in life, it may feel like the sky is falling on us, also. There are times when our entire life tree is falling and we don’t see a way out of the mess we are in. During these times, it would be helpful if we could find a way to change our thoughts around so that we could envision it as our own personal spring, cleaning wind … and see the positive things that will come from our suffering. That is a whole lot easier said than done, though. When we are in the midst of our sky falling it is hard to look up and even harder to let go of those dead branches.

On the other hand, there are times when we are actually living in dying trees and don’t realize it or don’t want to acknowledge it. At these times, wouldn’t it be great if nature could help us wake up by sending a big wind to blow through our heads and knock out all of our dead stuff, too? The thoughts and beliefs in our head that are dead ends to life, yet we cling to them … they could break off and tumble to the ground and become our nutrients, our tough life lessons to learn from. The rotten feelings could be set free to fall to the ground and start new life all around us. With the old branches gone, there would be room to sprout new ones full of life.

There are so many things we get hung up on that hold us back from living healthy lives … they stop us from changing and growing and we need to let go of those dead branches… sometimes a big cleansing wind blowing through us would be very helpful … don’t you think?
